CLARK FORK WATERSHED EDUCATION PROGRAM :

The CFWEP provides educational services related to the Clark Fork Basin environment to students, teachers and the public. CFWEP can assist teachers and other groups in setting-up field trips to the Berkeley Pit and other Clark Fork Basin Superfund sites, lead tours, provide historical context and science background on the area, assist with science projects, provide guest speakers for classrooms, offer Clark Fork environmental science and history lesson plans and curriculum materials, and much more. For more information, visit www.cfwep.org.
BERKELEY PIT IN YOUR CLASSROOM:
The Berkeley Pit is one of the most studied pit lakes in the
world (See the October 2000 News
& Notes article, "Berkeley Pit is the Olympics of
Testing Treatment Technology"). As a result, there are many
opportunities to use the Berkeley Pit in your classroom as a
teaching tool. Contact
us and we can help you turn the Berkeley Pit into a research
project for your classes.
SCIENCE FAIR & THE BERKELEY PIT:
When it's time
to pick a project for next year's science fair, be sure to consider
ideas about the Berkeley Pit. Our Advisory Committee is offering
awards for projects related to the Berkeley Pit and mine waste
cleanup. Savings Bonds are awarded for the best project in each
grade from 5th through 8th, and for the best project among high
school students. It's all part of the Montana Tech Science Expo.
Good luck with your project.
